The River Vale Office of Emergency Management has formed a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The purpose of the CERT program is to train ordinary citizens to care for themselves, their family, their neighbors and finally their community in case of an emergency. These volunteers will help to improve the response and preparedness of the community and the emergency services. The CERT training and education experience forms a crucial link between the community and the professional emergency response teams. COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT) TRAINING The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management and the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute in Mahwah sponsor a 24 hour CERT program on Wednesday evenings twice a year. CERT training is primarily intended to educate non-emergency service personnel on basic emergency procedures. The subjects covered are:
At the completion of the program, basic CERT safety equipment will be issued to each successful participant. CERT training is a great way to feel more empowered to protect yourself, your family and potentially your community. River Vale residents can obtain applications at the Town Hall or the River Vale Police Department. If you would like any more information or would like to assist with our CERT program, please contact Deputy OEM Coordinator Bill Peters at 201-666-3512, or on line at FireAppWP@aol.com.
