On Flag Day, June 14, River Vale Post 477, The American Legion performed
their annual ceremonial retirement of unserviceable American flags. They
were assisted by Boy Scout Troop 206, who also helped collect the flags
throughout town in the weeks prior to the ceremony. After a ritual
presentation and inspection of the flags slated for retirement, they were
respectfully burned and the ashes buried.
The ceremony was well attended by townspeople who welcomed the opportunity
to honor and respect the symbol of our country, its flag.
