Mayors Wellness Campaign

We would like to introduce the River Vale Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC).  It is comprised of members of the community who are interested in improving various aspects of health and wellness. The mission of the MWC is to equip mayors and other key leaders with the tools to develop and implement active-living initiatives in their communities with the ultimate goal of improving health and reducing the skyrocketing health care costs that come with the obesity epidemic in New Jersey.

The MWC supports mayors as champions of community health by creating the Healthy Town designation to recognize communities in which mayors have done an extraordinary job of promoting active living and healthy lifestyles.

MWC Healthy Town designations are awarded for meeting the following criteria:

  • A community must be a Mayors Wellness Campaign participant for one year or more;

  • A community must demonstrate sustainable programs in each of the Mayors Wellness Campaign categories:

    • Youth in Motion

    • Seniors in Motion

    • Employers in Motion

    • Community in Motion

  • A community must be willing to share its program information with other communities.The Mayors Wellness Campaign is an initiative of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute (www.njhcqi.org) in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (www.njslom.org).

By encouraging mayors to play a leadership role in supporting local opportunities for active, healthy lifestyles, the intent of the MWC is to improve health and make New Jersey a national leader in community-based health interventions.
