Rivervale Road Construction Project
Phase 1 of the project consisted of the clearing of shrubs and trees on the East side of Rivervale Road in the construction zone. Rivervale Road was open during this phase of construction however may be closed down to one lane with police officers alternating traffic.
PHASE 2 - began Thursday, December 10
Phase 2 will consist of a complete closure of Rivervale Road from Old Tappan Road south to Piermont Avenue. No traffic will be allowed in the work zone and will have to follow posted detours.
May 16, 2016 - As you are aware, Bergen County is in the process of constructing a steel sheet pile wall along the east side of Rivervale Road to stabilize the road and adjacent slope, as well as construction of associated roadway improvements including roadway reconstruction, curb replacement, and installation of guiderail, fencing and landscaping. Sparwick Contracting of Lafayette, NJ has been contracted by the County to construct this project.
May 31, 2016 - Representatives of the Township of River Vale, Bergen County, CME Associates and Sparwick Contracting met today to discuss the final stages of construction of the Rivervale Road stabilization project. The final construction zone is currently located between Town Hall and Piermont Avenue. At the aforementioned meeting it was determined that the project requires an additional week of road closure (until June 10th) to be completed. The original date of June 3rd could not be met due to a unanticipated failure of the southbound traffic lane which will require the contractor to excavate and repair both lanes of traffic. It is anticipated that the roadway will open 100% to vehicular traffic by the end of business on Friday June 10th.
The contractor will return later in the month to complete final paving of the entire project (Rivervale road from Old Tappan Rd. to Town Hall) and it is expected to be completed in 2 days with alternating traffic during construction hours of the respective days. Thank you for your continued cooperation during this project.
June 7, 2016 - Rivervale Road is still scheduled to reopen by Friday, June 10th at 5:00 pm. The contractor’s progress has gone so well in this phase that the final paving has been rescheduled from late June to tomorrow, June 8th.
To complete the paving it will be required to close Rivervale Road tomorrow from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm from Old Tappan Road to River Vale Town Hall. Upon completion of the paving at 5:00 pm, Rivervale Road will reopen from Old Tappan Road to Piermont Avenue. Rivervale Road (from Piermont Ave to Town Hall) will remain closed until Friday at 5:00 pm to allow the contractor to complete the remainder of work in that zone.
Officers will be on site to redirect traffic. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Thank you for your continued patience.
UPDATE JUNE 10, 2016 - RIVERVALE ROAD IS NOW FULLY OPEN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.
There may be some minor roadwork over the next several weeks, but we do not anticipate any more road closures
nor detours pertaining to this project. Thank you for your patience.
